Crystal has over 15 years of experience in New Zealand’s tax and business advisory sector. She specialises in working with individuals and small to medium-sized businesses, helping them navigate complex tax matters, business structures, and long-term planning strategies.

As Director of ABA Chartered Accountants, Crystal is passionate about helping clients achieve their goals and build long-term financial success. She takes the time to understand each client’s unique circumstances, business objectives, and future aspirations, ensuring her advice is practical, tailored, and focused on achieving meaningful outcomes.

Crystal has extensive experience advising business owners and investors on business structures, taxation, growth strategies, and succession planning. Her ability to combine technical expertise with practical commercial advice has made her a trusted advisor to a wide range of clients.

Within ABA, Crystal is committed to driving continuous improvement and fostering a culture of excellence. She plays a key leadership role in ensuring the firm adapts to changing business and regulatory environments while maintaining efficient systems and processes that support the delivery of exceptional client service.

Crystal is a member of both Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPA Canada). Her broad experience, professional expertise, and commitment to client success provide exceptional value to the individuals and businesses she works with.

Outside of work, Crystal enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors with her horses, and keeping active through running and Pilates.

Keri-Ann Muller

Keri-Ann Muller

Practice Manager / Accountant

Helping business owners build stronger, more profitable businesses through practical advice, strategic thinking, and trusted partnerships.

Keri-Ann joined ABA Chartered Accountants in March 2011 and became a shareholder alongside Crystal Scott in December 2020. With experience in public practice accounting and a background in Business and Rural Banking, she brings a practical understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by business owners.

Keri-Ann holds a Bachelor of Management Studies, majoring in Accounting, from the University of Waikato. She works with clients across a range of industries, helping them understand their financial position and make informed decisions about their businesses.

Her areas of focus include business advisory services, business planning, forecasting, cash flow management, due diligence, and supporting small business growth. She enjoys working alongside business owners to identify opportunities, solve problems, and achieve their goals.

Having been involved in the acquisition, growth, and sale of a business herself, Keri-Ann understands many of the decisions and challenges that business owners face. She is also involved in property investment and development, giving her practical insight into the opportunities and considerations involved in building wealth through property.

As Practice Manager, Keri-Ann is committed to supporting the ABA team and maintaining the high level of service the firm provides to its clients and community.

Outside of work, she enjoys tramping, golf, skiing, and spending time with her family.

Nada Maurovich

Nada is a Chartered Accountant and member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ). With more than 25 years of experience across accounting, auditing, and taxation, she is known for her technical expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for clients.

Originally from Croatia, Nada holds a Bachelor of Accounting and Business Finance from the University of Zagreb. Prior to joining ABA Chartered Accountants in 2010, she worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in both Croatia and Auckland, gaining valuable international experience in external audit and financial reporting across a broad range of industries.

Today, Nada works closely with businesses, investors, and family groups, providing accounting, compliance, and taxation services. She has particular expertise in trusts, tax residency matters, and property taxation, helping clients understand complex legislation and make informed decisions with confidence. She also supports a number of the firm’s larger and more complex clients, providing practical advice tailored to their unique circumstances.

Clients appreciate Nada’s thorough approach, her ability to explain technical matters in plain language, and her dedication to building trusted, long-term relationships. She takes pride in delivering advice that is not only technically sound but also commercially practical and focused on achieving the best possible outcomes.

Outside the office, Nada enjoys reading, travelling, keeping active at the gym and pool, and spending time with family.

Tony Johnson

Tony Johnson

Accountant & Tax Specialist

Tony has been a valued member of the ABA Chartered Accountants team since 2010, bringing extensive expertise in taxation, business advisory, and compliance services. Known for his analytical approach and deep understanding of tax legislation, Tony has developed a reputation for helping clients successfully navigate complex and often challenging tax issues.

With a particular passion for taxation, Tony specialises in overseas income & pensions, Foreign Investment Fund (FIF) rules, tax residency, property taxation (including GST), as well as Inland Revenue audits and disputes. His technical knowledge and attention to detail have helped many clients achieve positive outcomes in situations involving complex tax legislation and regulatory requirements.

Tony studied Accounting at the University of Canterbury before going on to own and operate his own food processing and distribution business. This hands-on business experience gives him a practical understanding of the challenges faced by business owners and allows him to provide advice that is both commercially focused and technically sound.

Clients value Tony’s ability to simplify complex tax matters, identify opportunities, and provide clear, strategic guidance tailored to their individual circumstances. Whether assisting with international tax issues, property transactions, or resolving Inland Revenue matters, he is committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for his clients.

Outside of work, Tony enjoys going to the movies, keeping active with regular walks, and expanding his knowledge of investment markets and strategies.

Sarah Lee

Sarah joined ABA Chartered Accountants in 2015. With more than 25 years of accounting experience, she works closely with a diverse range of clients, helping them stay on top of their accounting and compliance obligations while providing ongoing support as their businesses grow.

Sarah is responsible for preparing and filing GST returns, annual financial statements, and assisting clients with their accounting systems and processes. She also works with a number of the firm’s larger clients, taking the time to understand their businesses, goals, and challenges on a deeper level. This enables her to provide personalised support and practical solutions tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Known for her approachable nature and willingness to help, Sarah enjoys building long-term relationships with clients and becoming a trusted part of their business journey. Whether it’s answering a quick Xero question, assisting with accounting queries, helping clients improve their financial processes, or providing clarity around their tax position, Sarah is always happy to help—no matter how big or small the issue may be.

Before joining ABA, Sarah spent 20 years with an accounting firm on Auckland’s North Shore, building extensive experience in accounting, compliance, and client advisory services. This depth of experience, combined with her genuine interest in her clients and their businesses, allows her to provide practical support and trusted advice tailored to each client’s needs.

Outside of work, Sarah loves living on the Hibiscus Coast and is an avid Warriors supporter. She enjoys a good game of squash and can often be found on the sidelines supporting her children in their sporting activities.

Cheryl Phipps

Cheryl joined ABA Chartered Accountants in April 2025, bringing a wealth of experience gained over many years in both public practice and business environments. A Chartered Accountant and member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) Cheryl is known for her organised approach, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for clients.

Cheryl works closely with a diverse range of clients, assisting with financial statements, GST, FBT, income tax returns, and general compliance requirements. Her extensive experience enables her to provide practical support and reliable advice, helping clients meet their obligations while maintaining confidence in their financial affairs.

Throughout her career, Cheryl has worked with a variety of Chartered Accounting firms and businesses, developing expertise across accounting systems and compliance processes. Known for her thoroughness, professionalism, and strong work ethic, Cheryl enjoys helping clients achieve positive outcomes and takes pride in building trusted relationships based on reliability and service.

Outside of work, Cheryl enjoys modern jive dancing and sailing.

Kapila

Kapila Korala

Chartered Accountant

Supporting businesses with accurate accounting, technical expertise, and a commitment to quality service.

Kapila joined ABA Chartered Accountants in June 2026, bringing experience across both public practice and commercial accounting environments in New Zealand. Kapila became a Chartered Accountant in 2024, reflecting his commitment to professional excellence and ongoing development within the accounting profession. He combines strong technical expertise with a practical approach to helping clients understand their financial position and meet their business obligations with confidence.

Kapila holds a Finance Degree and a Master’s Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, providing him with a broad understanding of both financial management and business operations. His diverse educational background, combined with his accounting experience, enables him to provide well-rounded support to businesses across a variety of industries.

He works closely with a diverse range of clients, assisting with annual financial statements, GST, PAYE, income tax compliance, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

Prior to joining ABA, Kapila gained valuable experience working in both accounting firms and commercial organisations, where he was responsible for financial reporting, tax compliance, client management, and supporting audit processes.

Kapila enjoys building positive relationships with clients and supporting them in achieving their business goals. He takes pride in delivering high-quality work and providing practical advice that helps clients make informed decisions.

Outside of work, Kapila enjoys spending time with family and friends and continuing to develop his professional knowledge and skills.

Bonnie

Bonnie Michielsen

Practice Administrator

Keeping our practice organised, efficient, and running smoothly for both our team and our clients.

Bonnie provides vital administrative support to ABA Chartered Accountants, helping to ensure the day-to-day operations of the practice run seamlessly. Working part-time, she plays an important role in supporting both our team and our clients, managing a wide range of administrative functions that contribute to the efficient delivery of our services.

A key part of Bonnie’s role is overseeing the onboarding process for new clients, ensuring every step is completed smoothly and professionally from the outset. She is also involved in Company Office administration, job management, and a variety of practice support functions that help keep our systems, processes, and client records up to date and running efficiently.

Known for her organised approach, attention to detail, and willingness to help, Bonnie takes pride in ensuring that both clients and team members receive the support they need. Her behind-the-scenes contribution is an important part of delivering the high level of service that ABA is known for.

Although based primarily in Canada, Bonnie remains closely connected to New Zealand and enjoys returning regularly to spend time with family here. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening and hiking.
